Validating identity on a wireless network
The following instructions are specific to Windows XP, but should generally apply to Windows 2000 as well.Note that some wireless network clients require configuration through their own utility (not the XP Wireless network Connection dialog).
These instructions are for use with the built‐in Windows XP Wireless Network Connection Dialog. Log in as Administrator or to an account with local computer Administrative privileges. If the wireless adapter is not enabled you will not be able to configure it. From the Network Connections Control Panel, right‐click on the Wireless Adapter, choose Properties then select the Wireless Networks tab. Select LMU_WPA_Fac/Staff from the Available networks and click Properties, or click the Add button to add a network which Windows does not currently see in its list of Available networks. The below guide has been tested on MS Windows XP Professional and is based on Windows' default wireless configuration tool (Wireless Zero Configuration).Screenshots are taken from Professional version thus may slightly differ from other versions (e.g.Home Edition, etc.): You have now succesfully configured Windows XP to connect to eduroam network. In order to connect to eduroam network in future, simply bring up Wireless Network Connection window by double-clicking its icon in the tray bar , select eduroam network and click on Connect. If, for any reason, the connection turns to Manual, in order to re-connect, just bring up the available Wireless Network Connection window by double-clicking its icon in the tray bar , select eduroam and click on Connect.
In order to configure the connection back to Automatic, edit the eduroam profile, go to the Connection tab and check Connect when this network is in range: Figure 14: Setting Automatic connection = If the Wireless Network Connection icon is not present, this may be due to the wireless network manager of your vendor's card taking over from Windows' built-in one (Wireless Zero Configuration).
Please refer to the documentation of your vendor's card in order to turn it off as this may interfere with the procedure here documented.
= If the eduroam network does not show up, click on Refresh network list.
You’ll see a window like Figure 2: You’ll be placed into the Wireless Network Properties dialog on the Association tab.
The association tab allows you to configure those 802.11 options that need to be set before an 802.11 association is formed.
If needed, type the Network Name (LMU_WPA_Fac/Staff). Next Choose Properties, this will bring up the following window (Figure 4): 8.
